How to Layer that Little (or Long) Black Dress
It’s never too early to start planning for party season, and we have beautiful black dresses galore. The problem is that winter parties and LBDs are at odds due to the weather and the amount of walking we sometimes have to do to arrive at our destination. Here are a few ideas on purchasing the right dress and modifying the look to add a bit of warmth and comfort. If you’re in need of an all-around shoe appropriate for most evening events and that gets you around at night in weather, we suggest a pair of patent leather ankle boots – they’ll work with any of the looks below.
You need a small set of essential layering items. Mesh and fitted T-shirts in wintry and berry shades look great under black dresses. The key is choosing a neckline that allows you to change the look at will. Try these two items together:
The mesh top will give added interest and an extra bit of warmth so you can take this maxi dress from summer to autumn. A fitted body in red or cranberry under the dress? Yum. Replace the Birkenstocks shown here with patent leather ankle boots and you’ll stand out for not wearing the usual LBD look. Top it off with layered choker chains or a little shine with rhinestones.
If you want to go for a short dress, you’ll need leggings, but choose to stand out with colour or shimmer. Leggings are also the best choice if you’re going for strappy or open-toe shoes for the evening. You are absolutely spoilt for choice if you’re looking for a short LBD here at Pink Clove, and you can really get your flare on by pairing the Crystal dress with the lace sleeves of the Zara body.
In leggings or stockings, go for colour, shine, and texture. With the right building blocks, you can stay comfortable and turn heads this season.
