Plus Size Dresses and More for your Capsule Wardrobe
Posted on November 04 2014
When most of us think about putting together a capsule wardrobe dresses aren’t the first item that comes to mind. But in addition to those neutral basics a great dress can really be a simple go-to piece of clothing.
Read on to learn how to create a beautiful capsule wardrobe including a few pretty plus size dresses.
First things First
We like to start with your lingerie; the very foundation for any beautiful outfit. If you’ve never been fitted for a bra, it might be time! Having a good bra and comfortable briefs is essential not only to looking good but feeling comfortable throughout the day. The last thing you want or need is to have extra lumps and bumps.
Leggings and Camis
A few great pairs of leggings will see you through any season. They can be worn on their own with a tunic or kimono during the warmer seasons and then used as layers in winter.
Camis also serve as a warm layer. You can allow them to peek out from under a cardi or just let them stay hidden. Camis have the added appeal of helping to smooth out your figure. You can never really have too many, but it’s always good to start with basic camis in black, white and grey. It can be surprising how often we reach for these staples every morning.
When it comes to trousers you can often get away with having just a few pairs. In neutral colours these can easily be mixed and matched; they can go from day to night and be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
Once you find a pair of trousers that make you feel good and really feel comfortable, why not buy a few pairs in different colours?
Tops can be the most fun parts of our wardrobes- they are easily interchangeable and can be worn in all sorts of colours and patterns. But because we are talking about a capsule wardrobe today, let’s focus on the basics.
You can divide your tops into several categories according to your lifestyle: formal, week-end and possibly work or school.
We all need tops we can wear on a daily basis, whatever each of our days entail. Look for styles and cuts that flatter a curvy figure yet are comfortable and breathable.
Then you’ll need a top or two that you can go to when you need to dress for a slightly more formal occasion. Sometimes all it takes is a top in a more formal knit instead of jersey, or with an eye-catching neck line or special feature. Cowl neck and embellished tops are two good examples. Basically you just want something that will make you look a bit more dressed up; something different from the norm.
When building a capsule wardrobe it can be easy to forget about formal wear. After all most days we just need pretty but practical clothes. But, when the occasion comes up you’ll thank yourself for factoring in a few more elegant pieces.
Now we come to dresses, the least expected item in the capsule wardrobe. What do dresses for curvy women offer that virtually no other garment does? – They are a virtually one-piece outfit. Yes, you will have to put on a pair of tights or leggings to keep out the cold, and perhaps a cardigan and jacket for going outside but there’s no having to match top to trousers or skirts.
When purchased correctly plus size dresses can be a perfect neutral addition to your capsule wardrobe. Our knot front plus size dress is a good example of a piece that can really be dressed up or down according to the day’s plans.
